FIRST-EVER WASHINGTON DC REGION RALLYCROSS A SUCCESS

The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) hosted its first-ever RallyCross November 4th at the Nissan Pavilion at Stone Ridge, located in Bristow, VA.

Coming from as far away as New York and North Carolina, 36 drivers (and nearly another 100 crewmembers) took part in National Capital 2000 RallyCross #1. RallyCross #2 is scheduled for December 9th, again at the Nissan Pavilion, and another series for 2001 is being planned.

Organizers were headed by Skip Morgridge, Performance Rally Chairman of the Washington DC Region, Dave Shindle, Event Coordinator, and included both Performance Rally and Autocross enthusiasts from the Washington DC Region. This was an auspicious start for the first of several Performance Rally events being planned in the region.

Eleven of the 36 drivers were experienced Performance Rallyists, while the 25 "new" drivers came from the very popular SOLO II/Autocross ranks of the Washington DC Region and car clubs. Particularly impressive was the turnout from the Washington DC Subaru RS Club. The course consisted of over a mile of hard-packed gravel on one of the spacious parking lots of the Nissan Pavilion, a course which proved challenging and dusty -- with individual runs of over 2 minutes, scoring is based on cumulative times over 3 runs.
